The first part of the paper on the isoelastic POLDI prosthesis is concerned with animal experiments on dogs. The objective of the experiment was to prove the assumed properties of these endoprostheses, described by authors who use them in different clinical departments all over the world. The precise experimental procedure and exact histological conclusions mentioned in this investigation confirm the majority of these hypothetical qualities. In the discussion the authors compare the relatively small number of published experimental work with the conslusions of their own investigation. They mention the satisfactory osteoplastic activity of bone in the immediate vicinity of the rods. This applies to animals. As apparent in the second part of this paper the findings in human medicine may differ in some ways. Key words: endoprosthesis of the hip joint, isoelasticity, animal experiment, osteoplastic reaction, cervicocapital endoprosthesis of the hip joint.
