[Pelvic resection with the salvage of the limb in musculoskeletal tumours.].

P Janícek, J Podlaha

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1996; 63(6):326-333

The authors evaluated the results of pelvic resections with preservation of the extremity, operations performed in 1975-1995 in 20 patients operated at the First Orthopaedic Clinic in Brno. In 11 instances a malignant disease was involved, three times a secondary, three times a benign tumour and three times a tumour-like affection. As to malignant tumours, most frequently a chondrosarcoma was found. The authors divided the resections according to Enneking into three types, moreover they differentiated between their combinations incl. extended complete conservative hemipelvectomy incl. resection of the head and neck of the femur and articular capsule...

[Arthroscopic subacromial decompression.].

W Orljanski, G Barisani, A DEM, R Schabus

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1996; 63(6):334-336

Patients suffering from impingement grade II and III by Neer have to be operated on, if conservative therapy has failed. The value of the arthroscopical subacromial decompression in these patients is not completely cleared. In our study 54 patients have been followed up (mean 12 months). Using the UCLA - Score there were 44% very good and 50% good results; only one patient had a bad result. The average improve in the UCLA scoring from pre- to postoperative status was 14 points. Another very important advantage compared to the open procedure is the very short rehabilitation time. Key words: arthroscopy, subacromial decompression, humeroscapular periarthritis,...

[Osteosynthesis of fractures of the ulnar olecranon.].

T Malkus, B Soukup

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1996; 63(6):337-345

The problem of fractures of the ulnar olecranon has been, due to the relatively frequent incidence and character of the injury, dealt with for more than 100 years. Various types of osteosynthesis are recently the subject of investigations published in experimental studies. Due to the not quite uniform conclusions of this work the authors processed and evaluated in a retrospective study a group of patients treated at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training, Bulovka Hospital in 1984-1993. In the course of these ten years 70 patients with 71 fractures were treated. The group comprised a total of 29 patients with 30 fractures....

[Enthesopathy of the patellar ligament in weight lifters: a new therapeutic procedure.].

W Orljanski, N Aigner, C Fialka, R Schabus

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1996; 63(6):346-348

The insertion tendinitis of the proximal part of the patellar tendon frequently occurs in weight-lifters. In a prospective non-randomized study soft-laserlight (helium/neon-laser, wave length: 632.8 nm, power: 5 mW) was applicated on standardized acupuncture points on 21 knee joints of 15 performance athletes. Pain reduction during sports activity was obtained in 85.7% after the end of therapy and in 81 % in a three months follow-up. Local tenderness improved in 57.1 %. Key words: patellar tendinitis, jumper's knee, soft laser, laser acupuncture, weight-lifting.

[Austin's Operation at the First Orthopaedic Clinic in Bratislava.].

J Vojtassák, A Svec

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1996; 63(6):349-352

There are more than 200 types of surgical treatment of hallux valgus, but new modifications still appear. At the authors' Clinic during the last four years some of the patients are operated by Austin's operation. The operation is made under anaesthesia type "foot block". The operation is performed in a bloodless field, achieved by an Esmarch bandage. The incision is dorsomedial above the 1st MTP joint and is about 5 cm long. The incision of the bursa is Y shaped, with the base on the proximal phalanx of the hallux. We ablate the exostosis, deliberate the fibular portion of the articular capsule of MT and in case of more difficult redressibility of...

[Use of radiocolloids in orthopaedic practice.].

J Masár, J Frano, I Reznák, T Kosticová

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1996; 63(6):353-356

The authors submit in their paper the results of treatment with radiocolloids 198Au and Y90 in patients with chronic synovialitis associated with rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative diseases, haemophilia, posttraumatic conditions, arthropathy and gout. During the period between 1970 and 1995 they administered radiocolloid 1259 times to 865 patients. Up to 1986 they administered radiocolloid of gold 198, since 1986 to the present time only radiocolloid of yttrium 90. The authors compare the results obtained with the two preparations, the results being greatly in favour for yttrium. The evaluation was made 6 months before administration and 6 months following...

[Legg-calvé-perthes disease.].

J Poul

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1996; 63(6):357-363

The author summarizes basic findings on the etiology and epidemiology of Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCP). Attention is paid to its pathogenesis, and the relationship of transient synovitis to LCP is discussed. Attention is paid to pathological findings in LCP and the relationship of growth to the development of LCP. The author analyzes work devoted to clinical and radiological findings, arthrography and scintigraphy of the hip joints, incl. MR, CT and US examinations. He deals also with the differential diagnosis of LCP and prognostic factors which have an impact on therapeutic results. Therapy is discussed from the aspect of conservative treatment...
