Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):165-170 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/027
PURPOSE OF THE STUDYBack pain and pathologies of the spine are among the main reasons why people consult a doctor, both general practitioners and paediatricians, as well as, specifically, orthopaedists, surgeons, and neurosurgeons. This involvement of different faculties calls for a high degree of interdisciplinary co-operation. In order to mediate these aspects of spine-specific diagnostics, therapy, and research to students during their studies and to promote up-and-coming specialists, the compulsory elective subject 'Spine' was established.MATERIAL AND METHODSFrom the winter semester of 2013 to the winter semester of 2014, the compulsory...

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):171-178 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/028
PURPOSE OF THE STUDYThere are several treatment options for bone tumors at diaphyseal/metadiaphyseal sites of long bones (with joint preservation) including massive intercalary allografts, autografts (vascularized or non-vascularized fibular autograft, devitalised tumor bearing bone), endoprosthetic replacement (intercalary spacer), cementoplasty with ostheosynthesis and distraction osteogenesis. Reconstruction using massive intercalary bone allografts is for us the method of choice in case of curable primary bone tumors at the diaphyseal/metadiaphyseal region. The purpose of this study is to evaluate our results and complications.MATERIAL...

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):179-185 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/029
PURPOSE OF THE STUDYThe purpose of the study is a retrospective comparison of results of the two-stage revision total hip arthroplasty using a non-articulating and an articulating spacer to treat periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Two basic hypotheses are evaluated: (1) the clinical outcomes of the patients treated with "hand made" articulating cement spacer are better than in non-articulating patient's group in two-stage revision for PJI of the total hip arthroplasty and (2) PJI recurrence is higher in the group of patients treated with an articulating spacer group.MATERIAL AND METHODSThe evaluated group consists of a total of 57 patients...

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):186-193 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/030
PURPOSE OF THE STUDYThe aim of our study was to determine the indications for radial head resection at the present day.MATERIAL AND METHODSThe radial head resection was performed in the period from 2008 to 2015 in 63 patients divided into three groups. The first group marked "CR" consisted of 33 patients with the Mason type III fracture. The second group marked "CRLUX" included 20 patients with the Mason-Johnston type IV fracture, i.e. a fracture of the proximal end of the radius with a dislocation of the elbow joint. Within this group, in 8 cases also the coronoid process of the ulna was fractured. The third group marked as...

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):194-198 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/031
PURPOSE OF THE STUDYNeuromuscular deformities of the spine represent surgically uneasy to solve problems as well as serious handicaps causing sitting instability, pressure ulcers as well as pain. The aim of our study is to conduct a retrospective clinical analysis of the results of surgical correction of these deformities. This paper presents the use of a recent technique of sacral-alar-iliac (S2AI) screws and its comparison with other techniques of pelvic stabilisation.MATERIAL AND METHODSThe group of 41 patients treated surgically with S2AI screws technique and transpedicular or hybrid instrumentation of the spine consisted of patients...
Tear of the Distal Biceps Brachii Tendon - Correlation of Ultrasound and Operative Findings, Surgical Therapy ResultsOriginal papers

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):199-203 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/032
PURPOSE OF THE STUDYWhen treating tears of the distal biceps brachii muscle tendon, we repeatedly noticed a difference between the preoperative ultrasound findings and the operative findings. The aim of the study was to retrospectively correlate these findings in order to determine the sensitivity of the ultrasound examination in everyday orthopaedic practice. Moreover, we compared the results and complications of surgical treatment through two operative techniques used at our department.MATERIAL AND METHODSIn the 2004-2016 period 20 patients underwent a surgery at our department for total tear of the distal tendon of the biceps brachii...

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):204-208 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/033
PURPOSE OF THE STUDYKnee joint is the most common place where osteoarthritis may occur. A specific therapy is indicated to patients depending on the degree of disability and other signs. The available methods and their clinical value are regularly assessed in systematic reviews and meta-analysis of clinical studies. The evidence of working mechanism of the specific therapeutic intervention is another important part of evaluating its therapy effect. One of the possibilities of knee osteoarthritis conservative treatment is a functional prophylactic knee brace. This type of knee brace is designed to transfer the load away from the affected part of...
Arthroscopic Treatment of Chronic Retrocalcaneal Bursitis - Endoscopic CalcaneoplastyOriginal papers
L. PA©A, J. KU®MA, R. HERŮFEK, J. PROKE©, A. ©PRLÁKOVÁ-PUKOVÁ
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):209-215 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/034
INTRODUCTIONThe authors evaluate the results of endoscopic treatment and analyse the causes of persisting difficulties in retrocalcaneal bursitis unresponsive to conservative treatment. Stated as one of the causes is the possible chronic irritation of minor/partial tears of anterior parts of the distal portion of the Achilles tendon, which have no chance to heal due to continued overload and impingement syndrome of the superior prominence of the calcaneal tubercle.MATERIAL AND METHODSThe authors evaluate the group of 24 patients (10 women and 14 men) diagnosed with retrocalcaneal bursitis, who reported more than 12 months of difficulties...

L. HAJNOVIC, S. KNÖLLER, L. SCHÜTZ
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2018; 85(3):216-218 | DOI: 10.55095/achot2018/035
PURPOSE OF THE STUDYThere s a known relation between the chronical back-pain-syndrome and psychical problems. We suppose a direct causality between acute stress and onset of the backpain syndrome.MATERIAL AND METHODSA prospective cohort-study (IV/2014 - VIII/2014) of patients who came to our emergency department with acute back-pain-syndrome, with no relevant previous history - such as operations or chronic pain. We questioned together 39 patients (19 female and 20 male). The patients filled in two charts: FW7, and also a modified HADS-D. In the later one the patients were questioned in two extra points regarding contingent excessive emotional...

PURPOSE OF THE STUDYThe study aims to evaluate the long-term results of computer-navigated total knee arthroplasties performed by less experienced surgeon performing a small number of procedures per year.MATERIAL AND METHODSIn the prospective randomised study functional and radiological results, rate of revision and probability of clinical and radiological survival were compared in 30 computer-navigated (in 28 patients: 19 women, 9 men, with the mean age of 66.9 years) and 31 conventionally implanted (in 30 patients: 27 women, 3 men, with the mean age of 66.5 years) cemented total knee replacements without patellar resurfacing. The group...
